HEADER - DO NOT TOUCH

Truth and Reconciliation Week

Wow! What a week we had! There was so much learning happening in grade 6 about Truth and Reconciliation. We have only just begun unpacking Canada's History around Indigenous communities, and the impact of Residential Schools. We kicked off the week with Virtual Storytelling (on the topic of Reconciliation) with Dr. Margaret Brigham.

On Tuesday, we had the opportunity to pick a rod or image or phrase that stuck with us during our learning . This image or word was painted on to a rock. We will now place these rocks somewhere in our community where we hope that community members will look and start their own conversations about Truth and Reconciliation.

On Thursday we celebrated Orange Shirt Day! Students had the opportunity to listen to Phyllis Webstad- author of the Orange Shirt Story talk about her experience of Residential Schools. We also heard from her aunt who spoke of the horrible events that took place during her years at school. It was truly an emotional story she shared. We finished the week with Anishinaabe, Woodlands artist Mark Seabrook who created woodlands style art live.  Ask your child about their work of art. As you can see we had a very busy week.
I wish everyone a great short week! Reminder that Friday October 8 is a PD Day.
