HEADER - DO NOT TOUCH

First Week Down!

Woohoo, the first week down! I would like to congratulate all families and students for a wonderful first week of school. I saw lots of happy faces to be back at school. Students were excellent in getting to know the classroom routines, ontop of all the extra routines for COVID.

The week started off with many procedures being put in place to keep all students safe. We have read a few book on self-regulation and paying attention to how our bodies are feeling. Each morning, when students enter the classroom, they to a self check-in to see how they are doing and if they are ready for learning. We talked about the zones of regulation and how to regulate our bodies to be in the green zone for learning. If anyone is interested in posters for the zones at home, please let me know and I can send them to you. I would like to thank everyone who has signed up for the REMIND app. This is a great way for me to communicate with you. Mark your calendars, our Meet the Teacher night will be September 23 in the evening. It will be virtual and there will be more details to follow.

In math, we read the story Everyone Can Learn Math and talked about how our brain is a muscle and we have to exercise our brain by practising. Students then created a collage about themselves and how they are all mathematicians.

In language, we read A Letter from your teacher on the First Day of School,  and students wrote their own letters to their future selves. This letter is now tucked away for safe keeping and will be given to students on their last day of grade 6. Very fun little tradition I started a few years ago.

This week we look forward to learning about number sense- specifically place value. In language we will begin looking at descriptive writing as we take our learning outdoors. Pray for great weather this week!

Have a great week and I will update again soon!
